Insurance Commissioner Orders Coverage Protection for Pack Fire Victims

December 18, 2025 – Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara has directed insurers to maintain residential property coverage for over 14,800 policyholders impacted by the Pack Fire, following the Governor’s December 9 emergency declaration. The one-year moratorium prevents non-renewals or cancellations for residents within or near the wildfire zone, regardless of loss.

“This protection is critical as we restore insurance options statewide,” said Commissioner Lara. Since 2019, similar actions have safeguarded more than 4 million homeowners.

Consumers facing non-renewal or limited options should contact the California Department of Insurance for assistance.
