Commissioner Lara Issues Emergency Declaration to Accelerate Wildfire Recovery in Los Angeles
JANUARY 14, 2025 – In response to the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara has declared a state of emergency to expedite the recovery process. The emergency declaration requires that out-of-state Non licensed adjusters, brought in to manage the surge of claims from the Palisades, Eaton and other fires, must be closely supervised by California-licensed adjusters or managers.
The declaration aims to ensure that all claims are handled swiftly, fairly and in accordance with California’s strict laws, including the California Unfair Practices Act and Fair Claims Settlement Practices Regulations. “I’m doing everything I can to help wildfire survivors recover quickly and without unnecessary delays,” said Commissioner Lara.
Insurance companies are encouraged to work with consumers directly to resolve claims, and the California Department of Insurance offers free assistance to those who have questions or concerns about their claims.
