California Insurance Regulations Update
Following recent wildfires in Los Angeles, Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara has issued an alert warning survivors of potential fraud and scams. The California Department of Insurance has shared tips in English and Spanish to help consumers avoid dishonest contractors and public adjusters. Lara reminded public adjusters of state laws prohibiting solicitation within seven days of a disaster to protect residents from high-pressure tactics. Consumers are urged to contact their insurance company first and settle claims before hiring a public adjuster or lawyer. The Department offers free assistance to those with questions or concerns about their claims.
